READING MUSIC FOR BEGINNERS – 7:30pm-9pm – £90 for 6 x 1.5hr classes (see dates above)
Do you wish you could decipher all those dots and squiggles? A non-intimidating course suitable for complete beginners or people wanting to improve their sight-reading skills. You will learn how to work out tunes and rhythms, and also some keyboard skills. Taught by Richard who has almost 30 years of experience teaching music to people of all ages and abilities, you will have all your questions and queries answered in this small group learning environment! UKULELE FOR BEGINNERS – 7pm-8pm – £60 for 6 x 1hr classes (see dates above)
A relaxed and fun introduction for complete beginners to the ukulele in a welcoming and encouraging group environment. No previous instrumental experience required and ukuleles can be borrowed for the course upon request. This course will be lead by Jen, who has been teaching ukulele since 2012. Together we’ll get to grips with the basics from how to hold your ukulele, how to strum and the chords needed to get you playing your first songs! A digital and paper song book is included in the course cost as well as a recording of the class to help you practice in between sessions. This class is also available on Zoom if you can’t make it to Otley on a Tuesday evening. Need help on what kind of ukulele to buy and where to buy from or any questions about the course? ACOUSTIC GUITAR FOR NEWER PLAYERS – 8:15pm-9:15pm – £60 for 6 x 1hr classes (see dates above)
A session for players relatively new to the guitar or returning after a break and/or those who’d like to develop their strumming, tablature and chord skills in a group setting. This course will be lead by Jen, who has been playing guitar for 30 years and teaching since 2012. Playing in a small group setting is a really fun way to develop your skills and confidence on this instrument and a lovely way to meet new people too. In our classes, we will learn songs you know and love from the 1960s to the present day, each chosen for its chord changes, strum pattern and/or melody line.
This course is designed for people who have a bit of chord knowledge on the guitar already so isn’t suitable for complete beginners (please do get in touch if you would like 1-1 tuition!). Perhaps you know some of the following chords – C, D, Dm, E, Em, F, G, G7, A, Am – but you haven’t played for a while or would like to brush up on your skills. Please note you will need your own guitar for this course.
