MUSIC THEORY ESSENTIALS (INCLUDING BASICS OF KEYBOARD SKILLS) with Richard 10:30am-12pm

£60 for 5 x 90-minute classes (limited to 10 people) BOOK VIA TEAMUP

NEW FOR 2026! This set of five fortnightly sessions is designed to give you a solid foundation in music theory and help you understand how it applies to your own instrument. Whether you’re a singer, instrumentalist, songwriter or simply curious about how music works, this course will help demystify the building blocks of music in a practical and accessible way.

Topics will include reading notation, understanding rhythm and time signatures, scales, keys, and chords, as well as developing basic keyboard skills to support your learning. Using the piano keyboard as a visual tool, you’ll learn how notes, scales and chords are organised, helping to reinforce theoretical concepts and deepen your overall musical understanding. You’ll also gain confidence finding notes on the keyboard, playing simple scales and chords, and using the piano as a practical aid for learning and musicianship.

The emphasis is on understanding music through doing, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and apply concepts to real musical examples.

Led by Richard Sabey, an experienced multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer, the course is taught in a friendly and supportive environment with no prior theory knowledge required.

Ideal for anyone looking to improve their musicianship, gain confidence reading music, enhance their songwriting, or better understand the music they love to play and sing.

Please note this course is up one flight of stairs.
